Welcome to Dr Anna Bridge

I am a qualified and experienced Clinical Psychologist offering psychological assessment, formulation and therapy to children, adolescents, adults and couples. I also offer a consultation and supervision service to agencies and healthcare professionals.

I have worked in the area of mental health for 20 years both in the NHS and private sector, holding various research and clinical roles in Adult and Forensic Mental Health, and later specialising in Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Looked After Children aged 16-25 with complex trauma. I currently hold a part time senior position as a clinical lead and Principle Clinical Psychologist in Liverpool for a charity supporting people with substance misuse and complex needs.

There may be times in our lives during which we encounter emotional and psychological difficulties, which are often natural and normal responses to challenging and stressful life experiences. Sometimes these may resolve themselves on their own, with our own coping strategies and the support of loved ones, and at other times we may need the support of a mental health professional. This is where seeking the right therapist can help us to find new ways of understanding ourselves and coping strategies.

I offer an empathic, non-judgemental and collaborative approach where we work together to develop a shared understanding ('formulation') of your difficulties, based on a range of psychological theories. I place great emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and believe that being understood, accepted and validated in a space without judgement, is a fundamental part of any psychological work. All of my work is trauma informed and underpinned by psychological theory and evidence related to trauma, in addition to being diverse and inclusive and I am sensitive to issues surrounding gender, sexuality, age, race and disability. I incorporate systemic thinking into my work by helping a person explore the context of their distress that encompasses their own lived experience related to socio-political issues such as oppression and marginalisation. I have extensive experience of working with disadvantaged young people and adults. I believe helping a person to understand their distress within a societal context is important when often poor mental health is impacted by the society in which we live and naming and validating this is important.

My Background

Originally from the Wirral, I moved to Liverpool in 2007 shortly after completing my Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Forensic Psychology. I held a number of positions in the NHS and private sector in adult and forensic mental health before completing my Doctoral Training at the University of Liverpool in 2019. I am passionate about helping people find meaning and purpose to their lives, however that may look, in addition to supporting the mental health of individuals and society.
